

TOKYO: The Moroccan Embassy in Tokyo celebrated the 26th anniversary of King Mohammed VI’s enthronement on Wednesday.
The event was attended by esteemed members of parliament, Japanese political figures, diplomats, business leaders, and government officials, adding to the celebration’s grandeur.
Ambassador Rachad Bouhal welcomed attendees with remarks on King Mohammed VI’s reforms, which have been visionary and consistent throughout his 25-year reign. These reforms have played a significant role in building a “modern, open, and inclusive Morocco,” contributing greatly to the country’s economic and social development, positioning it as a model for other nations.
The Ambassador also extended greetings to Japan’s Emperor and Empress, the Imperial Family, and the Government and people of Japan.
He emphasized that Morocco has become a regional hub for investment and innovation, particularly in industry and infrastructure. Notably, he mentioned that the Tangier-Med Port has grown to become the largest port in the Mediterranean. He also highlighted the expansion of Al Boraq, Africa’s first high-speed train.
Ambassador Bouhal noted that Morocco is one of the early adopters of renewable energy in Africa, attracting a variety of high-value industries. He pointed out that the country is now the leading manufacturer of passenger cars in Africa, with Japanese companies known for their technological expertise playing a crucial role in strengthening economic ties between the two nations.
Furthermore, Morocco has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Japan to promote investment and trade. According to UN tourism data, Morocco welcomed 17.4 million international tourists last year, marking a 20 percent increase compared to 2023, making it the most visited destination in Africa.
KIUCHI Minoru, Japan’s Minister for Economic Security, commended Morocco’s progress under the King’s leadership. He noted Japan’s admiration for Morocco’s reforms promoting modernization and social justice. Minister Kiuchi emphasized that Morocco’s political stability and openness have made it a reliable partner, attracting more Japanese investments.
