Japan and Kuwait held their Fifth Policy Consultations on Friday in Tokyo, bringing together senior foreign ministry officials to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation across key sectors.
Ando Toshihide, Assistant Minister and Director-General for Middle Eastern and African Affairs, represented Japan, while Ambassador Sameeh Essa Johar Hayat, Kuwait’s Assistant Minister for Asian Affairs, led the Kuwaiti delegation.
Following the elevation of ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in May, both sides explored ways to enhance collaboration in politics, economy, energy, culture, and international affairs.
Ando thanked Kuwait for its steady supply of crude oil and reaffirmed plans to boost energy cooperation. The two sides also confirmed they are in the final steps toward lifting Kuwait’s ban on Japanese beef imports.
They exchanged views on developments in the Middle East and East Asia, agreeing to strengthen joint efforts for regional stability. Both parties also pledged closer coordination within the GCC framework, with Kuwait currently holding the presidency.
