TOKYO: Japan’s Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs MATSUMOTO Hisashi paid a courtesy call on his Israeli counterpart Gideon Sa’ar on Wednesday, where he expressed concern with the Israeli government’s decision to approve a plan to take control of Gaza that will further exacerbate the already dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.

He explained that it is important to support Palestine’s economic viability together with the international community.

Matsumoto stated that Japan attaches importance to the realization of a two-state solution. He also stressed Japan’s concern that the prerequisites for a two-state solution could be jeopardized, following the Israeli military operations across Gaza and the expansion of settlements in the West Bank.

Additionally, he condemned the attacks carried out by Hamas, adding that Hamas should be disarmed according to Japan’s Foreign Ministry.

The Israeli Foreign Minister outlined his country’s position on these matters, according to the Ministry, without elaboration.
