Tokyo government establishes call centers for foreign residents amid COVID-19

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government announced it has established on April 17 the Tokyo Coronavirus Support Center for Foreign Residents whose first language is not Japanese.

The launch of the new call center is in response to the uncertainty that the coronavirus pandemic has brought onto the lives of nationals and foreigners alike.

The operating hours of the center are from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

There are 14 languages which callers can choose from, including Japanese, English, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Nepali, Indonesian, Tagalog, Thai, Portuguese, Spanish, French, Cambodian, and Burmese.

According to the TMG, the call center is in place for residents who have questions regarding “Tokyo’s emergency measures, as well as questions regarding the system to issue payments to businesses for cooperation in suspending operations to stop the spread of the virus, can be directed to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government State of Emergency Measures Consultation Center at 03-5388-0567.”

TMG has also established “Tokyo Women's Plaza,” which provides consultation services for people suffering from domestic violence by their spouse or partner.

The consultation services are free of charge and are available in: English, Chinese, Korean, Thai and Tagalog.

Operating hours start from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m,. starting from April 21 until March 30, 2021.
