
TOKYO: Japan on Friday agreed with Indonesia and Jordan to closely cooperate to bring the global coronavirus epidemic to a close.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe reached the accord in separate phone talks with Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Jordanian King Abdullah II.
Abe told the Indonesian leader that Japan will give technical aid to medical workers and supply necessary goods to medical facilities in the Southeast Asian nation through international organizations. The president expressed his gratitude.
The prime minister sought the Indonesian government's cooperation to ensure the safety of Japanese nationals and stable operations of Japanese businesses in the country. Joko agreed to do so.
Abe also asked for Indonesia's support for stable exports of medical goods, including hospital gowns, to Japan.
The Japanese leader told the Jordanian king that he hopes the two countries will work jointly to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and resolve related economic challenges, as well as to stabilize the regional situation.
The king said that Jordan wants to advance cooperation with Japan in a variety of areas.
