Japan’s government distributes 14.5 million face masks

The Japanese government had distributed a total of some 14.5 million cloth face masks to households in Tokyo and 12 other prefectures as of Monday, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said Wednesday.

The government's mask distribution program "has proved very effective," Suga told a news conference, noting that it has helped face mask shortages at stores become less severe and prices turn lower.
