TOKYO: Chief Cabinet Secretary SUGA Yoshihide on Friday signaled Japan’s readiness to welcome highly skilled human resources from Hong Kong, which faces increasing pressure from the Chinese government.

“Our country is actively promoting the acceptance of foreign workers skilled in expert and technical fields, including those from Hong Kong,” Suga told a news conference. “We’d like to consider what we can do.”

The comment also reflects the government’s wish to revitalize the Japanese economy and make it more open to international society.

“It’s extremely important that Tokyo continues to be an attractive place to do business from a financial perspective and keeps developing as an international city where talent, information and money gather from around the world,” he said.
