TOKYO: Japanese Prime Minister-elect SUGA Yoshihide on Wednesday unveiled the roster of his cabinet members.

The roster was announced at a press conference by Katsunobu Kato, who was appointed by Suga as chief cabinet secretary.

Earlier on Wednesday, parliament elected Suga, leader of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, as prime minister to succeed Shinzo Abe.

Roughly half of the ministers are carried over from those of predecessor Shinzo Abe in line with his pledge to continue Abe’s policies.

Taro Aso remained in his position as finance minister and Toshimitsu Motegi kept his job as foreign minister. Among new cabinet members was Defence Minister Nobuo Kishi, Abe’s younger brother.

New Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato announced the line-up at a news conference.
