TOKYO: Prime Minister of Japan SUGA Yoshihide expressed hearty congratulations to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) on winning the Nobel Peace Prize.

In a message of congratulations to WFP Suga said “WFP has been making a great contribution toward eradicating hunger and poverty worldwide through food assistance. Whilst the world faces an unprecedented global crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic to this day, I sincerely pay respect to WFP staff who are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic day in and day out.”

The Government of Japan highly appreciates WFP’s abundant experience in addressing humanitarian crises as the sole UN agency delivering food assistance, and continues to support the efforts by the WFP, the message said.
