TOKYO: The Japanese government will exclude trips for purposes other than tourism from the scope of its Go To Travel discount campaign, tourism minister Kazuyoshi Akaba said Friday.
The campaign will also exclude travel products that come with expensive services and those sold on booking sites for business trips.
The new rule will apply to travel products purchased starting on Nov. 6.
“We won’t provide aid for items that are problematic, including from a socially accepted point of view,” Akaba told a press conference.
Examples of travel plans that will not be eligible for the discount are those that include training to get yoga and diving licenses and English conversation classes.
Products with 10,000 yen in accommodation fees and 30,000 yen’s worth of hotel facility vouchers will also be excluded. If accommodation plans and high-price services are sold separately, the accommodation fees will be covered by the campaign.
