TOKYO: Japanese Finance Minister Taro Aso on Friday praised the Group of 20 framework’s efforts to prevent the global economy from slumping amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The 20 major economies have worked together in response to the crisis and helped the world economy avoid slumping, and this should be highly rated, Aso said in a videoconference among G20 finance ministers.
Japan is ready to keep cooperating with other G20 members to contain the pandemic and achieve economic recovery, he said.
The G20 economies have confirmed the importance of international cooperation on the development and allocation of coronavirus vaccines while agreeing on a debt relief framework for developing nations.
These are “big results,” Aso told reporters after the online meeting, which was chaired by Saudi Arabia. The outcomes of the videoconference will be reflected in discussions at a two-day G20 summit from Saturday.
