Japan has ‘serious concern’ over the ‘deteriorating situation in Ethiopia’

TOKYO: Japan Dec. 4 expressed its serious concern over the large number of casualties and displaced persons due to the military engagements in Ethiopia where the situation is deteriorating for a long period.”

The foreign ministry in Tokyo said Japan strongly hopes that the federal government of Ethiopia and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) settle the situation as soon as possible.

While Japan considers providing assistance for displaced persons and the receiving country, it also strongly urges the federal government of Ethiopia to secure the safety of the citizens including foreigners and to improve access for implementing humanitarian aid on the ground., the ministry said

“Japan will continue to work with the international community towards the early settlement of the situation and to the peace and stability of Ethiopia and its surrounding countries.”
