Earthquake hits Ibaraki, shakes Tokyo

TOKYO: A medium size earthquake with the magnitude of 4.6 Shindo scale hit Ibaraki prefecture on Dec. 17 at 16:45,  the metrological agency announced noting there is no need to worry about the tsunami waves caused by this earthquake.

The epicenter of the trembler was the depth of 50 km is in the southern part of Ibaraki prefecture north east of Tokyo. This prefecture is one of the most prefecture hit by earthquakes in Japan.

Tokyo residents in parts of the Japanese capital Tokyo told Arab News Japan their building swayed moderately for few seconds. 

The seismic intensity varied in Ibaraki and surrounding prefecture from 4 Shindo down to 1 Shindo.
