TOKYO: Japan’s Foreign Minister MOTEGI Toshimitsu on Jan. 21 welcomed the American President Biden’s announcement of announcement of the reversal of the United States’ withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO).
Motegi said in an official statement that it is of critical importance that the WHO plays a key role in solving global health issues, including the response to COVID-19 and “Japan hopes that the US, as the biggest financial contributor to the WHO, will continue to play a leading role in the global health field.”
Japan will continue to collaborate with the US to support the ongoing review and reform process of the WHO and to proactively tackle global health issues including the response to COVID-19, Motegi said.
