TOKYO: The Japanese government has decided on a plan to lift its second coronavirus state of emergency, in place for the Tokyo metropolitan area, without extending it beyond the scheduled expiration on Sunday, senior government officials said Wednesday.
The state of emergency, which was declared on Jan. 8, has been extended twice and currently covers Tokyo and three neighboring prefectures–Saitama, Chiba and Kanagawa.
The first state of emergency over the epidemic was declared in the country in spring last year.
