TOKYO: Japan today requested all travelers who enter and return to the country from India, Pakistan or Nepal to stay at specific facilities, and are then instructed to take the COVID-19 tests on the third and sixth days.

These new measures for border enforcement were issued today by the government and will start on Monday.

“Those who have negative result in both tests leave the facility and are requested to self-quarantine at home during the remaining period of 14 days after entering Japan. The quarantine measures commence from 0:00 am (JST) on May 10, 2021,” the government said.

While the advice to avoid all travel has already been issued for level 3 countries/regions, it is necessary that short-term visits to India, Pakistan or Nepal with the intention of re-entering or returning to Japan be avoided.
