TOKYO: The Tokyo Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games announced on Saturday that 15 new people involved in the Games have tested positive for the new coronavirus. Some of the athletes’ village screening tests were positive for the first time.
By region, one in Hokkaido, one in Miyagi, one in Ibaraki, one in Saitama, two in Chiba, and nine in Tokyo.
By job type, there are seven outsourced staff, two media, and six people involved in the competition. One of them tested positive in the Olympic Village. This is the first time that a positive case has been found in the screening test in the Olympic Village. COVID-19 infected people are being treated at the hotel.
From the viewpoint of privacy protection, the Organizing Committee will not disclose the country, region, age or gender of COVID-19 cases.
Except for the players who came to Japan in advance, 45 people were found positive after July 1. The number of 15 people found infected was the highest ever announced daily.
