TOKYO: The 12 remaining staff members of the Japanese Embassy in Kabul have been evacuated to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, following the Taliban’s seizure of the capital of Afghanistan, the Japanese Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.
The embassy staff members were airlifted from Kabul’s international airport on a military flight provided by a friendly nation, the ministry said.
Japan closed the embassy as a temporary measure on Sunday and relocated its duties, including protection of Japanese nationals, to an office in Istanbul, Turkey.
The ministry has warned against any travel to Afghanistan.
