TOKYO: Medical and education workers took to the streets Tuesday evening, protesting against the Paralympics Japan scheduled to start from 24 August to Sept. 5,  under the state of emergency.

The protesters, also joined by activists, gathered near the Tokyo metropolitan government building in Shinjuku district, central Tokyo. They called for the cancellation of the games and held slogans denouncing the school programs set by the government to allow children to attend the competitions as part of a Paralympic Games education and awareness drive.

Women and mothers who participated in this demonstration took turns speaking through loudspeakers condemning this plan because it endangered their children in the context of the fourth wave of the Coronavirus sweeping Japan with a daily infection rate surpassing the 20 thousand mark and with more young people becoming increasingly sick.

The Japan Olympic Committee JOC decided to ban entry of all spectators including children participating in awareness programs, but in spite of this,  the Japanese government set up plans for the school children to attend the Paralympics, demonstrators said.
