TOKYO: Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato said Tuesday the government is considering easing its border control measures against the novel coronavirus in order to allow the resumption of social and economic activities.
“We will decide whether to relax our border measures also based on issues including the entry of new variants of the coronavirus from abroad,” the top government spokesman told a press conference.
Kato’s remarks came after the Japan Business Federation, or Keidanren, the country’s biggest business lobby, called for looser controls the previous day.
