NAGOYA: Foreign ministers from the Group of 20 leading economies on Saturday agreed on the urgent need to reform the World Trade Organization to uphold the multilateral trading system.
"The G20's common recognition is that the WTO needs to be reformed to make it capable of addressing issues related to international trade," Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi told a press conference after chairing the G20 meeting in the central Japan city of Nagoya.
Motegi also said priories in WTO reform differ among countries and that it is extremely important to find a common direction.
The ministers reconfirmed their cooperation toward creating international rules on cross-border transfers of digital data and eliminating marine plastic waste by 2050.
They also discussed the development of Africa.
