TOKYO: The Japanese government labelled China, Russia and North Korea as cybersecurity threats in a draft of its next cybersecurity strategy adopted last Monday. Foreign Minister MOTEGI Toshimitsu said the strategy broadens the definition of national security.

“Security in cyberspace and space has also become extremely important from the traditional classical way of security,” he stated at a press conference. “Amid this situation, the security environment surrounding Japan is becoming increasingly severe, and Chinese, Russian and North Korean authorities are suspected of being involved in various cyber activities.”

Motegi added that with competition amongst nations in cyberspace becoming intense, the need to secure international order is rapidly increasing. Under Japan’s new cybersecurity strategy, the government will continue to ensure Japan’s security through greater cybersecurity. In addition, the government will work as one to secure a free, fair and safe cyberspace.
