TOKYO: The new president of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), KISHIDA Fumio, has decided to appoint KONO Taro, the minister in charge of administrative reform, who participated in the LDP presidential election yesterday, as the party’s head of public relations headquarters, Japanese media reported.
Kono is well known for his highly popular social media posts with millions of followers. Kishida, who is set to form a new cabinet next week, expects Kono to play a central role in the party’s public relations activities for the upcoming general election of the House of Representatives. The popularity of LDP and the outgoing Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga had decreased considerably in recent months due to various reasons including what is considered lack of clear policy to deal with the spread of the coronavirus.
Further new appointments include former economy minister, Akira Amari, the LDP heavyweight, for the post of secretary general.
