Director of the Liberal Democratic Party Public Affairs KONO Taro is using his popularity on social media to his advantage with his latest Twitter campaign, the “KONO Taro Poster Challenge.”
On Oct. 22, Kono announced the challenge on his official Twitter page, saying: “If you see KONO Taro’s poster in the city, be sure to take a picture in the scenery and hashtag #KonoTaroPoster (#河野太郎ポスター) in the tweet. I will retweet one every day.”
Many Japanese Twitter users began using the hashtag and getting creative in order for the gain the former minister’s attention.
One user tweeted her kid’s hand-drawn photo of Kono with kanji writing as a caption.

Another Twitter user posted a photo of a hair salon with the Kono poster next to it. The tweet said: “What hairstyle would you like?” “Same as that poster”

Some of his followers even took to photoshopping Kono’s posters in unique backgrounds like a desert and a video game backdrop.

Kono’s constituency is in Kanagawa Prefecture, and he has been speaking out in support of Matsumoto Fumiaki, who is running in the Oct. 31 Lower House elections.
