TOKYO: The Japanese government today decided to provide 3.7 million doses of the Astra Zeneca COVID-19 vaccine manufactured in Japan to Egypt, Syria and Yemen and six other countries.
Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi made the announcement at a press conference in Tokyo on Friday.
The transfer of vaccines will be implemented through the international vaccine procurement framework COVAX.
The other recipients of the vaccines will be Cambodia, Laos, Bangladesh, Tonga, Vanuatu and Nicaragua.
Although the final numbers are being finalized, the provisional number of doses to be provided to Egypt, Syria, and Yemen is as follows: Egypt: 700,000 doses; Syria: 150,000 doses; Yemen: 150,000 doses.
