Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Toshimitsu Motegi said at a press conference Friday that Japan is looking forward to cooperating with Saudi Arabia for a successful outcome of next year’s G20 summit.

Motegi said he had a discussion with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan at last week’s G20 Aichi-Nagoya Foreign Ministers’ meeting.

He added that he wanted to see where the discussions will lead and the agreements implemented.

Addressing journalists, Motegi said that there can be issues regarding hosting summits in regards to setting the agenda and it is up to the host country to be the “central decision maker.”

“Japan is looking forward to cooperating with Saudi Arabia towards a successful G20 summit next year,” Japan’s foreign minister said.

G20 is composed of 19 of the world’s leading economies as well as the EU. At the summits and ministerial meetings, it has been usual practice for the host to invite a number of other countries globally to join talks.

At Nagoya, nine invited countries made a “significant contribution” to the meeting. Saudi Arabia is expected to follow similar practice in arranging next year’s meetings.
