TOKYO: Japan has not confirmed any severe case of the omicron variant of the novel coronavirus in the country, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno said Tuesday.

Matsuno made the remarks at a news conference after at least one person has died in Britain after contracting the variant.

He said there is no enough epidemiological information on the variant. “We’ll monitor the situation with a sense of crisis and act flexibly and swiftly when necessary,” he said.
