
TOKYO: Japan confirmed 89,915 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, its first daily count below 90,000 in five days.
The number of patients with severe symptoms grew by 35 from Saturday to 1,134. There were 68 new deaths.
In Tokyo, 17,526 new cases were confirmed, an increase of about 1,600 from a week before.
The number of severely ill patients in the Japanese capital rose by one from Saturday to 45. Five new deaths were reported.
Elsewhere in the country, Fukui Prefecture posted a record high of 236 new cases. Ibaraki Prefecture had a record high of 1,668 new cases.
