TOKYO: About 20 flights connecting Japan and Europe were cancelled Tuesday due to Russia’s recent closing of its airspace to European airlines, Japanese transport minister SAITO Tetsuo said.

Whether Japan will ban Russian aircrafts from flying in its airspace “will be decided comprehensively in coordination with the international community including its Group of Seven partners,” Saito told a press conference.

Britain, Germany and other European nations banned Russian airlines from traveling in their airspace over Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine. Russia imposed similar restrictions on European airlines as a countermeasure.
