On March 22, Japan made a 6,000,000 USD (650 million yen) contribution to the Adaptation Fund (AF), a climate fund that aids developing nations in addressing the impacts of climate change.

Japan actively supports climate change measures, and in Nov. 2021 Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio announced that Japan will double its assistance for adaptation to climate change to approximately 14.8 billion USD, according to MOFA.

The Adaptation Fund serves the Paris Agreement through “its concrete adaptation projects on the ground for the most vulnerable and its pioneering climate finance modalities like Direct Access that build country ownership in adaptation,” MOFA states.

The Adaptation Fund’s official website also states how “with over US$ 850 million allocated, the Adaptation Fund gives developing countries full ownership of adaptation projects, from planning through implementation, while ensuring monitoring and transparency at every step.”
