TOKYO: Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio pledged increased financial support, food and medicine, and other supplies to Ukraine requested by president Volodymyr Zelensky.

The request came during the two leaders’ fourth telephone summit on April 26. The talks lasted about 40 minutes.

The new up to 300 million dollars package of support, aimed at helping the Ukrainian economy, includes protective masks and clothing for chemical weapons and small drones and will be provided as soon as possible.

According to the foreign ministry, president Zelensky repeatedly expressed his deep appreciation for Japan’s support and explained the latest situation and his thoughts on future support and sanctions.

The two leaders agreed to continue to stay in touch and work together following the development in the country.
