On June 14, HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan spoke with Catherine Colonna, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic on the telephone for approximately twenty-five minutes.
Minister Hayashi expressed the intention to further relations between France and Japan and work alongside one another to combat various international challenges, including Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
They shared support for Ukraine and confirmed the importance of continuing sanctions against Russia while also collaborating with the international community, according to a statement by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Both ministers also discussed strengthening cooperation with regard to security and defense, and intend to work closely with regard to North Korea’s nuclear and missile issues.
They confirmed support for countries facing a food crisis, and also “confirmed that they would promote concrete cooperation through a range of consultations including the Comprehensive Maritime Dialogue and the Indo-Pacific Working Group,” according to the statement.
Minister Hayashi congratulated Minister Colonna on her appointment as Foreign Minister, and Minister Colonna highlighted the importance of fortified ties between the two countries.
