TOKYO: “The Japanese government is not in a position to speak about” the United States’ House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, Foreign Minister HAYASHI Yoshimasa said on Tuesday August 2.

“Having said that, and in general terms on the part of our country, the stabilization of relations between China and the USA serves the international community’s interests and is very important,” HAYASHI said at a press conference at the ministry in Tokyo.

Japanese local media have reported extensively on Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan and have warned against the intensification of Chinese military activities in the region as a result of the visit. The Sankei Shimbun quoted military sources calling on raising the level of vigilance against military moves by China.
