Tokyo conveyed its concerns to Beijing as the area covered by China’s military drills near Taiwan includes waters inside Japan’s exclusive economic zone, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno said Wednesday.

At a news conference, Matsuno stressed that Japan hopes to see a peaceful solution to the Taiwan issue.

“Tokyo is worried about a series of military activities announced by China and again strongly urges the parties concerned to resolve the issue in a peaceful manner,” he said.

According to Matsuno, a sea area where the Chinese military plans to conduct drills from noon Thursday includes waters inside Japan’s EEZ.
