TOKYO: Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno on Monday told other ministers to check whether they have links with the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, a religious group widely known as the Unification Church.
Matsuno said that every minister needs to check the links as a responsibility of a politician in order to dispel any suspicion among the public.
His request came in line with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s instruction. Matsuno told the ministers to relay the request to state ministers and parliamentary vice ministers.
“It is natural that politicians have to be careful with their relations with any group deemed to be socially problematic,” Matsuno said.
