An earthquake with a seismic intensity of 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 hit Ibaraki and Chiba prefectures eastern Japan near Tokyo at 3:24 local time, the weather agency reported.
Epicenter was off the east coast of Chiba Prefecture with a magnitude of 5.9.
The depth of epicenter was approximately 30 km. No tsunami was caused by this earthquake.
The magnitude was 4 in most of Ibaraki prefecture, and 3 in most of Miyagi.
Tokyo residents in some districts of the capital felt a soft shake, witness said.
