TOKYO: With Japan still restricting the number of visitors from overseas who can visit, the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA) has launched the JATA Overseas Travel Resumption Project. It is a promotional activity aimed at stimulating demand for overseas travel that is part of wider efforts undertaken by the Japan Outbound Tourism Council (JOTC), which has been working to revitalize overseas travel.

While some countries have eased their border restrictions, the number of Japanese people embarking on overseas travel is still very limited. The JATA Overseas Travel Resumption Project aims to fully revive overseas travel. Its slogan is “Let’s go! Travel to revitalize the world!”

The project is bringing together travel agencies that are JOTC members, airport companies, airlines, tourism bureaus and embassies.

A “Declaration of the Resumption of Overseas Travel” was published in the form of a full-page color advertisement in national newspapers and displayed on digital signage set up at six airports nationwide.

“Travel agencies, airlines, airport companies, and national tourism bureaus have all worked together as one,” JATA’s Overseas Travel Promotion Department said.

“This project has allowed us to not only work together and contribute to shaping positive public opinion toward overseas travel, but also create a movement to encourage overseas travel alongside the travel industry, as well as national tourism bureaus, airlines, and airport companies in other countries.”

The Japanese government is also planning to revive its “Go To” travel campaign aimed at boosting domestic tourism.
