TOKYO: At a Congress of the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf on Saturday, it was decided that the 2025 Deaflympics would be held in Tokyo.
The Deaflympics is an international multi-sport event for deaf athletes.
Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike said she was “delighted” that Tokyo had been chosen as hosts.
“This will be the first time for the Deaflympics to be held in Tokyo or anywhere else in Japan,” Koike said. “In addition, the 2025 Deaflympics will be a commemorative event as it will mark the 100th anniversary of the Deaflympics.”
Koike said that hosting the Deaflympics will help to “deepen understanding of deaf people and deaf culture” and further promote Para sports.
She added that the event “will allow us to make a more powerful statement to the world on the importance of diversity” and will greatly contribute to the realization of an inclusive society.
