TOKYO: The Japanese government has decided to extend an emergency grant of USD 7 million to Pakistan in response to the damages caused by flood disasters that have ravaged different parts of the country since mid-June.
This Emergency Grand Aid, announced by the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo on Sept. 16, and offered through multiple international organizations, will allow implementation of support for those seriously affected by the flood disaster by supplying food, shelter and health and medical care, as well as water and sanitation. Japan, in coordination with the countries of the international organizations, will ensure efforts will be made for the earliest recovery of the affected areas, according to the ministry. The World Food Programme (WFP) will be allocated USD 2.5 million, The International Organization for Migration (IOM) will receive USD 1.5 million for shelter and non-food items whilst the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) will get $ 1 million for WASH (Water/Sanitation/Hygiene). The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) will receive $1 million for protection and non-food Items and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) will be allocated 1 million for health and medical care.
