TOKYO: Japanese Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio on Friday held a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and promised that as chair of the G7 next year Japan will continue to impose strong sanctions on Russia.
Japan’s Foreign Ministry reported that Kishida said the so-called “referendum” that Russia held in “occupied” areas of Ukraine and the attempt to incorporate regions of Ukraine into Russia “violated Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
Kishida reiterated Japan’s stance of working together with the G7 and others to stop Russia’s aggression and lead discussions in the international community to continue strong sanctions against Russia.
President Zelensky expressed his deep gratitude for Japan’s position and support.
