Tokyo: The average retail price of regular gasoline in Japan as of Monday fell 0.1 yen from a week before to 169.1 yen per liter, down for the first time in three weeks, reflecting lower crude oil prices, the industry ministry said Wednesday.
The average pump price was down in 25 of the country’s 47 prefectures, flat in six and up in the remaining 16. The highest price was logged in the southwestern prefecture of Nagasaki, at 182 yen.
Government subsidies paid to oil wholesalers in the week to Wednesday helped push down pump prices by 36.7 yen. From Thursday, the amount of subsidies will be 36.3 yen per liter.
