Phnom Penh: Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida Sunday called on his Vietnamese counterpart, Pham Minh Chinh, to join him in opposing Russia’s use of nuclear weapons in its war in Ukraine.

Any threat to use nuclear weapons is unacceptable and they must not be used, Kishida told Chinh in a meeting in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on the sidelines of regional summits. Chinh said he will cooperate in achieving a nuclear-free world.

Kishida also had brief conversations with Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and called for cooperation in ensuring stable supply of liquefied natural gas.

The Japanese prime minister also said his country is willing to work together with Brunei to ensure regional peace and stability.

Bolkiah said he wants to deepen relations with Japan.
