DUBAI: Tokyo metro will not be operating extra late-night trains this new year’s eve.
New Year’s Eve in Japan has a unique and traditional way to be spent by the locals; many people visit temples or shrines late at night so they can be there as the clock strikes midnight and the new year begins.
Public transportation plays a major role as not many people own cars, specially in big cities, so most people depend on public transport.
Rail operators tend to extend their working hours and provide later night trains on new year’s eve to accommodate people’s late plans for this special occasion; however, Tokyo metro will not be operating beyond its normal hours this year, which marks the second time in three years for Tokyo metro to refrain from running extra late-night trains.
