TOKYO: Japan has demanded that China end its suspension of visa issuance to Japanese nationals, Foreign Minister HAYASHI Yoshimasa has told an online press conference.
Expressing “regret” over the Chinese move, announced Tuesday, Hayashi said Japan has lodged a protest through diplomatic channels.
China has halted visa issuance to Japanese and South Korean nationals in retaliation for their COVID-19 border control measures against China.
“Japan is implementing border control measures taking as much care as possible not to stop the international flow of people,” Hayashi told the press conference, held during his visit to Argentina on Tuesday local time.
“It is regrettable that China has restricted visa issuance for a reason unrelated to novel coronavirus measures,” Hayashi added.
