Teacher in Saitama school attacked with knife by intruder

Toda, Saitama: A young man entered a junior high school in Saitama Prefecture, north of Tokyo, and attacked a teacher with a knife on Wednesday, according to police.

The suspect, who is believed to be in his teens, was apprehended by several teachers and arrested by Saitama prefectural police on suspicion of attempted murder at the site of the crime.

According to the prefectural police’s Warabi police station, the perpetrator is believed to have entered Misasa Junior High School in the Bijogi district of the city of Toda in Saitama, and cut a male teacher in his 60s at around 12:20 p.m. (3:20 a.m. GMT).

The severity of the teacher’s injuries is unclear, but he is thought to have been conscious while being transported to hospital.

The suspect has admitted to attacking a person with a knife, and told police that he wanted to kill anyone he could. Police are investigating the suspect’s identity and motive.
