TOKYO: Japan on Friday expressed serious concern about the Israeli Knesset’s recent decision to amend the 2005 Disengagement Law allowing resettlement in areas of the West Bank, a move that “clearly goes against the efforts by the international community to de-escalate tensions,” the Foreign Ministry said.
“Settlement activities are in violation of international law and undermine the viability of a two-state solution,” a statement from the Ministry said. “The Government of Japan strongly urges the Israeli authorities to fully freeze its settlement activities, including in the areas designated by the above-mentioned decision.”
The statement stressed that the holy days for Muslims and Jews should be a moment of peace, and said the government of Japan once again calls on all parties concerned for maximum restraint and responsible behavior, refraining from incitement and violence.
