SEOUL: The South Korean presidential office said Thursday it will not lift an import ban on fishery products from Fukushima Prefecture that was introduced after the 2011 nuclear accident in the northeastern Japan prefecture.

There is no change in the government’s position that puts top priority on the people’s health and safety, the presidential office said in a statement. Fishery products from Fukushima will never enter South Korea, it said.

Reports that Japanese Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio asked South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol to remove the import ban at a summit earlier this month have left some people speculating that Seoul will lift the measure.
