Tokyo: Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said Wednesday that his government aims to spend around 3.5 trillion yen on child-rearing support during a three-year intensive period starting next April.

Proposed measures include expanding child allowances.

Kishida instructed Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki, economic revitalization minister Shigeyuki Goto and other officials to work on the plan, according to Goto, who spoke to reporters after their meeting.

The officials agreed to consider how to finance those measures when the government compiles a state budget late this year, according to Goto.
