TOKYO: Tokyo Governor KOIKE Yuriko hosted Lord Mayor of London Nicholas Lyons on Monday to discuss how to make the financial sectors of their cities attractive.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government signed a memorandum in 2017 with the City of London to establish the basis for mutual cooperation with the financial sectors.
Lyons, who was CEO at Lehman Brothers before becoming Lord Mayor in November 2022, thanked the governor for her welcome and suggested developing the renewable energy sector, particularly in light of the Fukushima nuclear accident.
He said the London finance sectors can contribute to providing expertise to Tokyo in terms of sustainable finance and transition finance. He also noted the similarities between the financial sectors of Japan and the United Kingdom.
