TOKYO: The support rate in Japan for Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio’s cabinet plunged 12 points in a public opinion survey conducted by the Mainichi newspaper. It fell to 33percent, compared to 45 percent in the previous poll conducted about one month ago.
Meanwhile, the disapproval rate was 58 percent, up 12 points from the previous survey.
The Mainichi attributed the change in the voters’ mood to the scandal related to Shotaro, the prime minister’s eldest son who served as a secretary to the prime minister. Shotaro was criticized for holding a year-end party at the prime minister’s official residence, as well as for problems concerning the My Number social services identification cards.
In the previous survey conducted during the G7 Summit in Hiroshima, Kishida’s approval rating rose 9 points from the April survey.
